Spontaneity with Strangers

Today, as I was walking into the library to work on a paper, there was a girl, probably about 11 years old or so, and a boy, probably around 8-9 ish that appeared to be her younger brother. She had a very tight grip on his arm, and the were whisper fighting. You know, when you're really mad at someone, but you're in a public place, so instead of getting mad and yelling, you grab their arm, and drag them outside, while whisper-yelling at them, hoping no-one notices.
kinda reminds me of me and my younger brother, just a few years back actually.

Well, this cute sibling couple was doing just that. As they stalked out of the library, all red-faced and fuming at each other, I sat down at a computer.

About 10 minutes later, I hear this huffing- very hard, intentionally loud breaths- accompanied by the sound of smaller feet stomping towards me. I look up, and there is that same little boy, more red-faced and fuming, stalking across the library, around the corner, and then down the hall.

All of the college students around me stared at him. Then, being to mature to say anything, just looked around.

Then we all made eye contact.

That was the best part, cause the 6 of us, all strangers, started busting out laughing. It. Was. Great.

It's Official

There are only 5 men I need in my life (until future husband comes into the picture. But he's not here yet, so we'll stick with these 5 for now)

-DAD
-BEN
-JERRY
-DAVID
-GYM

Tonight I hung with Ben and Jerry. Tomorrow, it's gonna have to be David and Gym to even out my time with Ben and Jerry tonight.
Mostly Gym. He's gonna need some lovin'.
Then I get to call Dad about my adventures with the other 4 men.
Good times :)

Really?!

Construction.
I. Can't. Stand. It.

So basically, it's everywhere. If I have 15 minutes to get from one building to the next, and it's a pretty straight shot, I don't think I should have to cut through the library, up 3 flights of stairs, and through the MC, only to find that the quad I would normally cross, is now completely fenced off, and I have to walk all the way around the quad and through another building just to get to my class.

And it seems like it's going to take the next 7 years to complete.

Good thing I wasn't too attached anyways

You know a boy doesn't like you,

when you invite him to go stadium singing, and afterwords when you're just talking he sees an old friend. Points him out and says to you, "you should marry that guy. He's one of the best guys I have ever met." And then proceeds to invite 'that guy' over to introduce you to him.

Then, when you're walking to his car (because he's too swamped to come join you for ice cream), he sneaks in to the conversation that he likes this other girl that was at stadium singing, but he feels like an idiot.

Was I supposed to say something comforting and encouraging after that? I don't believe I did....

Simple Pleasures

I firmly believe that it's the little things in life that make it worth it. That if you can't find joy in the small and simple things, you are truly missing out.
Things like:

-roasting marshmallows and starbursts over the stove
-making s'mores with said marshmallows and chocolate frosting
-laughing until you're cheeks and sides hurt
-chocolate frosting covered strawberries
-blogging
-smiling
-giving a compliment
-doing dishes with warm water
-being told you look nice
-going on dates just for fun
-cartwheels in the grass
-star gazing
- swinging super high
-long walks in the dark with friends
-having a good hair day
-not having to make dinner
-fitting in exercise
-finishing homework
-listening to the same song close to 25 times in a day. because it's that good.
-sitting in the sun
-wearing a sundress
-seeing friends get ready to get married
-new shoes
-when all the songs on your pandora station are great
-coming back to the apartment actually feels like home, and is looked forward to
-photo shoots
-fantasizing about boys
-long road trips
-good food
-walking barefoot
-hearing a cheesy joke
-seeing a small child smile
-sunshine
-rainy days with the excuse to stay inside and watch a movie
-rainy days with the excuse to go and dance in it
-finishing a project
-singing loudly and off key on purpose. just because it's fun.
-having someone borrow an ingredient, and bring back brownies.
-flip flops
-chocolate
-long talks
-seeing the end

Sometimes You Just Gotta Take a Risk

So, funny thing happened on Wednesday.

On my way home from the temple, I left at the same time as another girl, and we just started walking and talking together.
As we chatted about life, and things to do around town, she asked me what kinds of fun dates I've been on. I had to admit that I'd only been on one blind date.... I don't get around much.
Well, she immediately decided that that should be fixed, and that we should double and she would find me a date. She took my number, and promptly started going through her contact list to find someone that would work.

Now if this was anywhere else, I would have run. But this is my little college town we're talking about, so I feel pretty safe.

Well, she said she would call on Thursday, but she didn't. So I thought this whole thing was going to fall through (I never really thought she was serious in the first place)

I got a text this morning..... and I am gong ton this blind date tonight.

Wish me luck!!!!

Took me long enough

i think i may have finally done it. finally succeeded.

i've found myself.

do i still have a lot of growing up to do?
most definitely. i'll admit to that.

but i have never felt more me in my entire life.
i'm so happy to be alive. and to be me.

and i might drive some people crazy, but i don't think i care.

i'm pretty sure that i'm the happiest i've ever been in my life.
and i know i don't want to let go of that.

Don't Judge

Just admit it.
You know I'm cute.

Small Children

Today I got go paint with small children in the preschool lab. Best project for school ever. Just thought I'd get that out there.
We had to come up with an activity to do with the kids, so we decided to cut sponges in the shape of cars, and have different colors of paint mixed with things like, shaving cream and oatmeal.
Then, the kids can just go at it.

We had a blast :)

But, there was a boy in my group. And as the children were coming into the classroom, one child came up and said, "Why is there a boy in our classroom?!" As if having a boy teacher was just unimaginable. Impossible.
But that's why I love kids. They're so genuine and honest. I wish everyone could be like them.
Well, maybe not so honest. Feelings don't get hurt when little kids are blunt, but they do if an adult says something so honest.

We only had 2 kids come paint.
So, we decided we would paint. It was indeed fun.
And then when there was only 3 minutes left, suddenly all the kids wanted to come to our station. Of. Course.

b-t-dubs, I really want a truck.

ssshhhhhhhhhhhoes

GUESS what i got yesterday?!?

Yup. I got a pair of TOMS.

They are super awesome. And have a fantastic animal print on the inside.

For Future Reference

Compliments are good. Girls like them.
I like them.

I'm going 2 for 2. Two days, two compliments from random strangers. On the same skirt. (Don't judge, I had my reasons for wearing the same skirt two days in a row.)
And those are the best. When they come from people you don't know.
It just makes the compliment so much better.

Also today, I had a random guy come ask me what my favorite compliment is. He was 'trying to get into the woman's brain'. We settled on 'you look beautiful/nice' is the best. But, any will do. Especially if it's coming from guy --> girl.

Just a tip for future reference ;)

SUMMER.SUMMER.SUMMER.

This is my summer theme song:

Thanks Kari for introducing it to me!! :D

Issues

I'm becoming hesitant, and over-analyzing everything.

This could be potentially problematic.

Just gonna keep my fingers crossed, and we'll see what happens!

Remember?

Remember how I said I no plans this weekend?
Well, my weekend actually turned out quite lovely.

I got a bit of homework done, and a lot of relaxing done.
Laundry, a nap, and no letters written, but I did look cute (if i might say so myself)
I skyped little siblings, parents, and best friends.
Watched a couple movies.
Went to a 'Guitars Unplugged', and listened to lots of amazing guitars and singers.
Got to drive a car.
Got my all-time favorite smoothie at Jamba Juice. (I've tried to venture out, but I always end up going back to good 'ole banana berry)
Didn't have to make dinner on Sunday (or dessert)
Remembered the wonders of my tide-to-go pen. Especially when BBQ pork and brownie batter decide they would rather be friends with my white skirt than with my mouth.
Sang under the stadium.
Laughed so hard I cried, and smiled until my cheeks hurt.
Danced to my hearts content.
Walked in the rain.

For my daddy

Just want to honor my dad on fathers day especially.
i love you :)

ps -you're the best dad I ever had!! ;)

double ps- sorry about the daisies. I wanted one with just lyrics, and daises are my favorite. Plus, you're not really going to find a manly version of this song with lyrics, so I figured this would have to work :)

It's simply not the same

There's just nothing quite like putting them on.

Jeans.
Warm ones straight out of the dryer.
Your favorite pair.

Weekend

Wishing I had weekend plans.

But as of right now, I pathetically don't have any.

Guess we'll see what adventures I can find.
And what nonsense I might or might not get into....

Becky

I hadn't given Becky some real love in a while, so I figured we needed some time :)

Butterflies

I've got that butterfly-filled feeling.

They're fluttering all around in my tummy and chest.
And it's causing sleep and soon possibly food deprivation.
Though I didn't mind them there initially, and even welcomed them, they are overstaying their welcome.
It's getting quite difficult to concentrate.

Got a cure anyone?

Nik Day

So another video for today.

But today, I got to go to this guy's concert:

And it was wonderful. He's funny, and talented, and good looking.
He writes his own songs. They are good.

And this music video is my favorite. It's so good!
Plus, it combines 3 of my favorite things.
1. playgrounds
2. kids
3. cute boys

Perfect combination :)

Laughter

Have you ever wondered where laughter comes from?

Well, I sure have. And honestly, I have no idea.
If you figure it out let me know.

I love laughing, and i love listening to other peoples laughs.

There's so many different kinds of laughs.
My sister's laugh kinda sounds like a donkey.
Sometimes I laugh in a musical scale.
Others snort.
Some don't breathe.
Some cry. (I sure do)
Some squeal, and squeak. (and squawk)
Some just giggle.
Some have that deep rumbley laugh.
For some people, they can't stop once they've started.

I think we can agree that one of the best sounds is laughter.
My favorite? Multiple children laughing at the same time, or a baby figuring out how to laugh.
It's a tie.

Healthy?

Remember when there were cute little boys selling cookies?

I went there again today. There were new kids, and a new sign.
This time, I got to buy vegetables. For 1 cent.
I got to snack on a lovely piece of broccoli.

Guess they realized cookies aren't very good for you.

WANTED

Hey you.

Yeah. You.

I'm a poor, starving college student. And I really want some real food.
An actual meal.

And I'm running out of actual meals to make.

So if you have a recipe, or more than one recipe, and it's not one of the super-secret-family-recipes-that-can't-be-shared-with-anyone, then would you possibly, maybe, care to share it with me?

You would be my hero.

The cheaper and easier the better, but there are no limits.

It doesn't matter if it's a main dish, or your favorite dessert, or your great grandmother's sister's best friend's favorite salad or side dish.

THANKS!!

It's beginning to look a lot like summer...

Yes, the intention of the title of this post, is to get that Christmas song stuck in your head.
And if it didn't it's there now.

-----------

Another thing that grows really well in Rexburg, is dandylions.

Remember when you were little, how you would go into the yard, and pick those beautiful yellow flowers to give to your mom?

Or if you're a mom, how you would then take those beautiful little weeds and put them in your hair, or a glass of water?

And then you would take these little wish puffs and blow the light, airy seeds all over the yard
(while dad is secretly cursing the fact that he didn't get the weed killer down fast enough)

And then these little lady bugs would end up in your house.

"So! Bein' a ladybug automatically makes me a girl. Is that it, fly boy? Eh?"
-Francis, A Bug's Life

BYU-I is blossoming

My college campus is looking b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l.

Little did I know, that tulips grow wonderfully in good ole Rexburg.

And actually, since the wind never stops in Rexburg, most of the petals have been blown off. But, they did look beautiful :)
